Your circle is not a generic contact list. In Legacy OS, entries connect people to the stories, files, and messages meant for them — so “share with family” does not become “share with everyone by default.”
When you add someone, think in pairs: person + purpose. That habit pays off when you set per-item visibility or schedule a message that should only reach certain relationships.

Relationships change. A short annual pass — who is still in, who needs a different slice of the archive — prevents drift.
